Dr. Subbarao has been trained in CFTRI at Mysore (in Biochemistry), following which he spent his time screening and researching anti-cancer compounds at Pennsylvania State University for nearly a decade. He holds three US patents and one of those is in early phase clinical studies. He has got expertise in Nanotechnology (liposomes), gene knockdown using siRNAs and phytochemical screening for anti-cancer activity. His expertise includes:
Drug discovery and development: Screening of naturally occurring and synthetic drugs for developing cancer therapeutics. In vitro cell viability, cell death and proliferation assays (MTT, TUNEL, BrdU etc). Determination of drug potency (IC50 values); Target identification and validation using siRNA libraries; In vivo assessment of the toxicity and effectiveness of drugs (tumor kinetics and metastasis studies, analysis of organ related toxicity)
Development of liposome based nanodrugs: Preparation and characterization of nanoliposomes for small molecules (<500 Da). Drug loading and release kinetics, in vitro safety and efficacy testing, in vivo studies in small animal models of cancers.
