Dr. Basappa, born in 1976, in Saluhundi, Mysore District, did his M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry, 1999) and Ph.D (Chemistry, 2005) from University of Mysore. He did his postdoctoral research at Kobe Pharmaceutical University, JSPS fellow at Hokkaido University, Japan and has also worked as a Postdoctoral Associate at Singapore-MIT Alliance Research and Technology, Singapore. He was a Pavate Fellow (2013) at University of Cambridge, UK and got awarded Sir CV Raman young Scientists award, from government of Karnataka. He is currently working as an Assistant Professor, Department of studies in Organic Chemistry, University of Mysore, INDIA. His work at Prof. K. Sugahara’s laboratory, Hokkaido University, Japan, has generated a several new lines of research in the areas of glycobiology and cancer therapeutics. He also made a novel contribution in elucidating the structure of glycans of mouse and marine origin, and also understanding the functional aspects of glycosaminoglycans. Till date, his research contributions have earned him over 1900 scientific citations and i10 index of 55 and h-index of 25. Dr. Basappa also received the most cited article awards in 2003-2006 and 2006-2009, from the Elsevier Journal, Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry. Dr. Basappa is member of many professional organizations such as Japanese Society of Carbohydrate Research, Pharmaceutical Society of Japan, Indian Council of Chemists, and Indian association for cancer research.
